Before you write
If you're reporting a bug, please open Settings → Copy diagnostic info in the app and paste the result into your email. It includes app version, build, and current filter state — no location, no personal data, no campsites you've viewed. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what it contains.
Frequently asked questions
The app crashes when I open it
- Force-quit the app (swipe up from the app switcher).
- Restart your iPhone.
- If it still crashes: delete and reinstall. Your favorites and custom pins are stored on-device and will be lost — there is no cloud sync.
- If the problem persists after reinstall, email us with your iPhone model, iOS version, and the app version (Settings → About).
The map is blank or tiles won't load
- Map tiles need a network connection unless you've downloaded an offline tile pack for the area.
- Try switching the tile provider in Settings → Map style. Some providers throttle heavy use.
- Check that location permission is granted under iOS Settings → LLUCAMPS → Location, so the map can center on your current position.
How do I download a region for offline use?
- Pan and zoom to the area you want.
- Open the layers / download control on the map and choose Download tile pack.
- Tile packs typically run 50–500 MB depending on area size and zoom range. Download over Wi-Fi.
- Downloaded packs survive app restarts and are listed under Settings → Offline tile packs where you can delete them to free space.
Does the app work without internet?
Yes — that's the point. Campsite data is bundled with the app at install time, so it works in airplane mode. Map tiles need either a network connection or a pre-downloaded offline pack for the area you're in.
A campsite is missing, wrong, or closed — how do I report it?
- Email us with the camp's coordinates (latitude/longitude shown on the camp sheet) and what's wrong.
- If the camp comes from OpenStreetMap, you can also edit it directly at openstreetmap.org — your edit will appear in a future LLUCAMPS data refresh.
- If it's a federal site (Recreation.gov, NPS, USFS, BLM), the source of truth is the agency. We re-import their data periodically.
How do I add a private pin?
- Long-press anywhere on the map.
- Give it a name and (optionally) notes.
- Private pins are stored only on your device and are never transmitted or shared.
How do I delete a private pin?
- Tap the pin to open its sheet, then tap the trash icon.
- Or open Favorites → My pins and swipe to delete.
Can I export my favorites or trip lists?
Not yet — export to GPX/KML is on the roadmap. If this matters for you, email us and we'll prioritize it.
I want to wipe everything and start fresh
Settings → Reset → Clear app data deletes all favorites, custom pins, trip lists, recently-viewed history, and downloaded offline tile packs. This cannot be undone.
Where does the campsite data come from?
Recreation.gov, the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, USGS PAD-US, and OpenStreetMap. The full list with license terms is on the credits page and in the app under Settings → Credits & licenses.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Android is on the roadmap after the iOS release stabilizes.
Is there a subscription? Are there ads?
No and no. LLUCAMPS is a one-time free download with no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no analytics SDK. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What we can't help with
- Reservations or refunds for federal campgrounds — contact Recreation.gov directly.
- Permit questions for BLM long-term areas, national forests, or national parks — contact the local ranger district or park office.
- Road conditions and current closures — call the managing agency before you go.
- Trip planning advice — we point you to legal places to camp; the trip itself is yours.
Safety reminder
Public-land camping rules and conditions change. Always verify access, fire restrictions, and seasonal closures with the managing agency before traveling. Pack out what you pack in. Follow Leave No Trace.
