Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-21
LLUCAMPS is designed to work without an account, without analytics, and without sending your personal data anywhere. This policy describes exactly what data the app touches and where it goes.
TL;DR
- No account. No email collection. No advertising IDs.
- Your location is used only on your device to center the map and show distance to camps. It is never transmitted off the device.
- Crash reports are sent to Sentry only if you opt in (Settings → Preferences → Crash reporting). They contain a stack trace, app version, and OS version — no location, no identifiers, no campsite data.
- Map tiles are fetched from a third-party tile provider you select in Settings → Map style. The tile provider sees your IP address and the geographic tile coordinates being requested. We never proxy these through our own servers.
What data the app touches
1. Device location
- When: Only after you grant the location permission.
- What: Your approximate latitude/longitude.
- Where it goes: Nowhere. It stays in memory on your device, used to center the map, compute distance, and drive nearby-sort.
- We do not log it, store it, or transmit it.
2. Crash reports (opt-in)
- When: Disabled by default. Only sent if you turn on Crash reporting in Settings.
- What: Stack trace, app version, OS version, device model.
- Where it goes: Sentry (sentry.io). Sentry is a third-party service. Their privacy notice: sentry.io/privacy.
- What we exclude: Your location, your favorites, your filter selections, the campsites you've viewed, and any user-created pins.
- You can turn this off at any time.
3. Map tiles
- When: Every time you scroll or zoom the map, and while an offline tile pack is downloading.
- What: A request to a map tile provider containing the tile's geographic coordinates and zoom level. The provider can also see your IP address. We never proxy these requests — they go from your device directly to the provider.
- Where it goes: Whichever provider matches the map style selected in Settings → Map style:
- Positron (light) — OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), requests to
tiles.openfreemap.org - Dark matter (dark) — Versatiles (versatiles.org), requests to
tiles.versatiles.org
- Positron (light) — OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), requests to
- Switching provider: Change the map style at any time in Settings. The provider currently in use is shown there.
- Custom hosts: If a build of the app has been configured with a custom tile host, that host receives these requests instead. This is not the case for the version distributed on the App Store or Google Play.
4. Favorites, recently-viewed, filters, custom pins
- Stored only on your device using local app storage.
- Never transmitted anywhere.
- Cleared when you tap "Clear app data" in Settings → Reset, or when you delete the app.
5. Anonymous bug reports
- Tapping "Copy diagnostic info" in Settings copies a text snippet to your clipboard so you can paste it into a support email or issue.
- The snippet includes app version, build SHA, current filter, last map position, and favorites count.
- The snippet does not include your location, your custom pins, any campsites you've viewed, or any account information.
- We only see it if you choose to send it to us.
What data the app does NOT collect
- Email, phone number, name
- Advertising identifier (IDFA)
- Photos, contacts, calendar, microphone
- Background location
- Health or fitness data
- Browsing history outside the app
Third parties
| Service | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Sentry | Crash reporting (opt-in) | Stack trace, app/OS version |
OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org) | Map tiles — Positron / light style | IP address, tile coordinates |
Versatiles (tiles.versatiles.org) | Map tiles — Dark matter / dark style | IP address, tile coordinates |
| OpenStreetMap / Recreation.gov / NPS / USFS / BLM / USGS | Source of campsite data (one-time, at build time) | Nothing from you. |
Data sources for campsite information
The campsite data shipped inside the app is derived from public sources, primarily US federal government works (Recreation.gov, NPS, USFS, BLM, USGS PAD-US) and OpenStreetMap. See the in-app Settings → Credits & licenses screen for the full list and license terms.
The dataset is bundled with the app at build time. The app does not phone home to fetch campsite data at runtime.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and contains no advertising, no social features, no chat, and no user-generated content visible to other users.
The app does offer three optional consumable in-app purchases — a tip jar, under Settings → Support development. They are entirely voluntary, unlock no features or content, and use the standard system purchase flow (including any parental controls or Ask to Buy restrictions configured on the device). The app behaves identically with or without a tip.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects what data is collected or where it is sent, we will increment the app's version number and publish the change on this page before that version ships.
